For the next month, make any donation to UNRWA's critical relief work HERE, then fill out the form below (or at this link) to receive a unique, custom crossword puzzle from a professional constructor on our team. You'll receive one square for every dollar donated (5x5 puzzle for $25, 7x8 puzzle for $56, 10x10 puzzle for $100, etc.) up to a standard 15x15 puzzle (though you're free to donate more as you're able). 

This donation is also tax-deductible, as are any donations made to the charities supported by Puzzles for Palestine. Custom crosswords make great gifts, promotional materials and fun activities for all ages!

What Is UNRWA? Why Is It Important?

UNRWA (officially the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinians in the Near East) was founded in 1949 to support Palestinians from communities ethnically cleansed by the Nakba of 1948. It has a proud 75-year history of providing education, health services, housing, financial support and protected refugee status to 6 million Palestinians over four generations in Palestine (Gaza/West Bank), Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. UNRWA runs by far the largest humanitarian operation in the West Bank and Gaza, with 90% of their workforce of thousands sourced locally, an employment lifeline for countless families inside the world's biggest "open air prison." Currently, more than $700 million in essential funding is being held hostage by Western governments in the wake of the ICJ ruling that Israel is plausibly committing genocide in Gaza. Using deliberate starvation as a weapon of war is illegal under international humanitarian law. In this case, many experts believe states that help Israel contribute to the widespread starvation throughout Palestine by defunding UNRWA may become active participants in genocide. 

Without UNRWA, millions will lose their protected status as refugees and the already catastrophic humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, as well as in other UNRWA-serviced areas, may collapse beyond repair.
