“This is a unique colonialism that we’ve been subjected to where they have no use for us. The best Palestinian for them is either dead or gone. It’s not that they want to exploit us, or that they need to keep us there in the way of Algeria or South Africa as a subclass.” (Edward Said, from his 1994 book "The Pen and the Sword")
We are committed allies to the Palestinian cause.
As such, it is critical that we speak alongside, not over, Palestinians that have been at the forefront of their liberation struggle for generations. At the same time, it is not the responsibility of our Palestinian friends – who are experiencing dire stress and suffering as a direct result of the actions of our governments in the US and Canada – to educate us about the Palestinian cause when we can learn from readily available resources.
The trauma and resilience of Palestinians living under colonization and occupation for more than 76 years manifests itself in a rich array of new and old cultural media, much of it under-appreciated by Western audiences like ours. We realize that this may be an unfamiliar and intimidating cause to interact with for many people and warmly encourage you to engage with these resources with an open heart and mind and join us in our journey of learning about, advocating for, and demanding a free and liberated Palestine.
We've updated the media from last year where apt to most effectively highlight the current realities on the ground, with sustained emphasis on the "Take Action" section– everyday actions you can do to make a difference.
